    2. ..... they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.

International Women's Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war; during the French Revolution, Parisian women calling for "liberty, equality, fraternity" marched on Versailles to demand women's suffrage.

What has a coy (presumably naked) woman got to do with International Woman's Day then?

    3. Kate,
I am sorry that you see the Women's International day as a day of mourning. I prefer to see it as a day of hope. I am also very sorry that you see this award winning photographic shoot by Dennis Mecham as just "a presumably naked" woman body and that this bothers you. There is nothing crude or misogynistic in this beautiful photography, just an ode to women in general on this special day. Cheers-

    4. I'm not bothered. I don't see it as a day of mourning. The photo is okay..... But what has it got to do with Liberty Equality or Fraternity??

  2. Thank you, same to you! This day has always been celebrated in Poland where I come from. Now I live in the UK and here it isn't very popular, but I do have fantastic memories of receiving flowers from my dad and later my brother that day. They always had flowers for my mum and granma and it just made us feel special and loved :)
